Smith leads the way as Mustangs top Falcons in golf

Laurel Highlands’ Kayden Smith shot a 1-over-par 37 to outduel Connelsville’s Braydon Rockwell, who shot a 38, for medalist honors and the host Mustangs defeated the visiting Falcons, 209-227, in a Section 2-3A boys golf battle at South Union Municipal Golf Course on Monday.
Laurel Highlands improved to 3-0 overall and in the section, while Connellsville fell to 0-3 and 0-2.
Following Smith in scoring for LH were Damon Revak (40), Ryan Revak (42), Dan O’Neal (44) and Mason Cicci (46).
Hunter Hughes and Owen Show both shot a 46 and Wade Bryner carded a 47 for the Falcons. Landon Garlick rounded out the scoring for Connellsville with a 50.
CARMICHAELS 209, BENTWORTH 265 – Eli Hasting took medalist honors with a 4-over-par 39 as the Mikes rolled to a Section 3-2A victory over the host Bearcats at Chippewa Golf Course.
Connor Lapana was next in line for Carmichaels with a 40, Jayden Kerley shot a 41, Anthony Post turned in a 43 and Chase Ankrom capped the scoring for the Mikes (2-0, 2-0) with a 46.
David Miller’s 40 led the way for the Bearcats (0-3, 0-3). He was followed by Wyatt McClain 52, Nathan Thompson (53), and Cooper Piasecki and Brayden Bozovich (55).
GIRLS GOLF
OAKLAND CATHOLIC 194, MOUNT PLEASANT 211 – Mount Pleasant’s Morgan Miller claimed medalist honors with a 41 but the Vikings fell to Oakland Catholic in a Section 1-2A match.
Riley Levers led OC with a 43 and was followed by Jade Epondulan (49), Nancy Freyvogel (50) and Mckenzie Muir (52).
Ally Christner shot a 54 for Mount Pleasant. Victoria Tepper and Jacklynn Schendel carded a 57 and 59, respectively, to round out the scoring for the Vikings.
