State police release Labor Day weekend enforcement numbers

Across Pennsylvania over the long weekend state police responded to 580 crashes, including five crashes in which six people died. Troop B, which covers Washington, Greene, and Fayette counties, as well as portions of Allegheny and Westmoreland counties, responded to 51 crashes. None of those accidents were fatal. The statistics were tracked between Aug. 30 and Sept. 2. Troop B also made 41 DUI arrests, and issued 415 speeding citations. Statewide, there were 514 DUI arrests and 7,069 speeding tickets. That is the same number of DUI arrests state police made last year during Labor Day weekend. Police issued about 2,000 fewer speeding tickets.

Dunbar man charged with burglary

State police charged a Dunbar man Tuesday after he allegedly attempted to steal a vehicle. Frank Openbrier, 54, faces felony charges of burglary, criminal mischief and attempted theft by unlawful taking. According to the criminal complaint, police were called at about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday to a car lot at 1048 National Pike, South Union Township. Openbrier is accused in court documents of breaking the windows on a Ford Explorer and taking the keys from inside. He attempted to steal the car, and when it would not start he swapped the battery with another vehicle. The owner of the car lot found Openbrier inside of a different vehicle. A German Township man is charged with three felony counts of aggravated assault and one charge of felony child endangerment after state police said he rammed another vehicle during a road rage incident Saturday. Police said James Wayne Fisher, 42, was driving on Route 119 near Route 21 in South Union Township shortly after 7 p.m. when his pickup truck crashed into the rear of a vehicle driven by Charles Louie.
