Fayette County Fair Returns with 10 Days of Family Fun
The Fayette County Fair returns to the fairgrounds in Dunbar, Pa from July 30-Aug. 8. This anticipated yearly event is a celebration of summer, community, and Fayette County’s rich agricultural heritage. The fair board and countless volunteers have dedicated their time throughout the year to bring the best in entertainment to the event, packing the ten-day fair schedule with concerts, grandstand events, agricultural shows, and more.
Fair board secretary RaeLynn Regula is excited for this year’s entertainment lineup, which features many traditional favorites and exciting new acts as well. The Silvis Group Family Area is the hub for kid-friendly fun, with several returning fan favorites and several new acts this year.
“We’re focused on family fun and entertainment. Families and kids can learn a little bit more about farming and agriculture in our area,” she says. One of the family-favorite attractions is the Pigs Gone Wild Racing Pigs, a lively competition that showcases adorable piglets racing to win the coveted prize of an Oreo. The races run daily at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., with additional races at 4 p.m. on weekends. After the races, families can head over to the ever-popular petting zoo for more adorable animals.
In terms of human entertainers, the youngest fairgoers will be delighted by the return of the “Joy Unspeakable,” a living statue. He will be moving-and standing still-throughout the fair daily, interacting with visitors as they try their hardest to get him to break character.
New to the fair this year is “Hilby the Skinny German Juggle Boy”, an international act who was described by the New York Times as “rivetingly absurd”. This lederhosen-wearing entertainer wows crowds as he juggles and balances everything from swords to bowling balls. You can catch Hilby’s show daily at 6:15 p.m. and 8:15 p.m., as well as 4:15 p.m. on weekends.
Cowboy Andy Rotz will be joining the fair this year, bringing his patriotic Wild West-themed thrill show along with him. The show features quick-paced rodeo roping tricks, gun-spinning and sharpshooting. Cowboy Andy will perform daily at 7:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m., as well as 5:15 p.m. on weekends.
New to the fair is the First Bite Fishing Tank, where young anglers can try their luck at catching live fish at this stocked catch-and-release tank.
Outside of the family area, the fairgrounds have several stages and venues for entertainment, so that multiple shows can take place each day. The Builders FirstSource Arena is home to the big outdoor shows, with the most popular events taking place each evening around 7 p.m. The APRA-sanctioned full rodeo returns to the fair (July 31), and you can watch the truck and tractor pulls on multiple days (July 30, Aug. 1, Aug. 4, Aug. 6). Wrestling fans can catch RYSE Wrestling on July 31. Motocross takes the arena on Aug. 2, and the hardcore demolition derby is on Aug. 3. Wednesday, Aug. 5 will feature monster truck races and Mud Mania returns on Aug. 7.
The fair will close out on Aug. 8 with a performance by The Oak Ridge Boys. You can catch several other musical acts, including The Clarks, Lost Years, Smith & Company, Katrina Lynn, Cross Seekers, Joe Materkowski, and more.
Throughout the fair, visitors will notice many nods to America’s quincentennial.
“Some of our competitions have been themed like the 250th anniversary,” says Regula. “There are going to be some patriotic decorating contests.” She also notes the cherry pie and cherry cobbler contests, as well as blacksmithing demonstrations.
