Clara “Gladys” Emilia Pasqualone Berardi, 101, of Uniontown, peacefully passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
Clara was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Emilia Pasqualone, and grew up in Edenborn and Uniontown. She graduated from Uniontown High School in 1943, where she was known by many as “Patsy.”
In August 1946, she married Carl Berardi, who was an Army “medic” stationed in Texas and who later became a Uniontown City Policeman. For many years they operated a neighborhood grocery store in the East End of Uniontown.
Carl preceded Clara in death in 2003. She was also preceded in death by five brothers: Nick, Glorio, Frank, Joseph, and Richard; and three sisters: Emma Hall, Anne McKenna, and Rose Santos.
She is survived by her son, Frank (Patricia) Berardi; her daughter, Amy (the late David B.) Slusarick; and one grandson, the Rev. David Slusarick, a priest in the Diocese of Greensburg; as well as several nieces and nephews, including Camille Machinia and Vincent Petno.
While her husband was a policeman, Gladys was an active member of the Police Auxilliary. She was also one of the oldest and longest-standing members of St. Therese Church in Uniontown, where she had been a member and officer of the Altar Society. She worked on the Spaghetti Dinner committees for many years.
She enjoyed country and western music, playing 500 Rummy, Missing Vowel Word Searches, and visits from her family. She especially loved spending time with her only grandson, David. She was a fashionable, happy, and dignified woman of faith, who will be deeply missed.
Clara’s family extends thanks to caregiver and friend Rosa Cooley, as well as the staff of Amedisys Hospice and Peroni Personal Care Home for their wonderful care during her final years and months.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 24, in the GATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 136 N. Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, in St. Therese Church, with a committal service to follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
