Thoughts at Large

My last Thoughts at Large article garnered some good feedback and I really liked doing it. Here is my second Thoughts at Large articleëƵ. What is the greatest version of the Bible?ëƵ.Colossians 3:23-24 New King James Version (NKJV) says 23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men. With that being said, do soldiers who are Christians then kill the enemy in the name of Christ? DonëƵt get mad at me, itëƵs an honest questionëƵ. In America there is a classic Yin/Yang effect in advertising. On one side is the appeal to all kinds of weight loss diets and programs, and on the other is the constant enticement to eat. You can either lose weight or buy bigger clothesëƵ. Which Superhero is your favorite? ëƵ. Proverbs 17:22A (KJV) says 22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: So does telling a funny dirty joke cancel itself out?ëƵ.I donëƵt understand why Christians/people get upset over fundraising efforts by Christian media but donëƵt say anything about secular advertising which takes up to 1/3 a programëƵs time. Why the double standard?ëƵ. As it concerns economics and fiscal policy, it is said that there is no such thing as a free lunch. IOW someone has to pay for whatever youëƵre getting for ëƵfreeëƵ. IëƵm reminded of that on Veterans Day, Memorial Day and especially Easter!ëƵ. Back in the mid ëƵ90s I used to do services at the Greene County Jail. One night I had 14 guys and I asked the question, ëƵHow many of you have heard the story of David and Goliath?ëƵ 2 out of 14 raised their hands. About 85 percent did not. Perhaps if more of those guys had heard Bible stories, maybe they wouldnëƵt have been in Jail? Just sayingëƵ.What is the difference between Legalism and Holiness. Legalism tries to secure salvation by living right; Holiness tries to live right because of salvationëƵ. I want to throw something out there, there actually is such a thing as ëƵHoly HellëƵ. ThatëƵs real deep Theology!ëƵ. I have discovered doing a root cause analysis the two greatest common denominators of all people that die. They all have breathed and they all have blinked! IëƵm surmising that we may prolong our lives if we quit breathing and blinking. Let that sink inëƵ.If you could eliminate sleep as something the body needs, what would you do with the extra time? How would society be affected if no one needed to sleep again? Would the workweek be extended? Would bedrooms become passeëƵ?ëƵ.Every so often we see a picture of 5 generations of family, has anyone ever seen 6 generations?ëƵ.What is the best piece of advice that you have received so far, and why?ëƵ.Make no mistake about it, saying willy nilly has no relationship to Milli VanilliëƵ. How come you never see fortune tellers winning the lottery, racetrack bets, or high stakes at a gambling casino? Let alone what investments to makeëƵ. If artificial intelligence ever becomes sentient or self-aware and capable of its own thoughts, would it then cease to be artificial? Would we humans then be obligated to ascribe personhood to that intelligence?ëƵ.The latest Conspiracy theories I have decided to adopt to be amused about are, ëƵHitlerëƵs brain is alive and giving out orders in secret Nazi compounds in the jungles of Brazil, Elvis is also alive and living in a trailer park in Tennessee, and that if you sing a country song backwards, youëƵll get your dog, truck, job and girlfriend back!ëƵ.Scientists are confirming that cellphone addiction is a real thing, especially when it is a smart phone connected to texting, Facebook, Email and the internetëƵ.And IëƵm essentially proud of the fact that at this point in time I do not know or understand the difference between snapchat , Instagram or PodcastëƵ.I donëƵt care what anyone says, I like McDonalds coffee and fast foodëƵ. By the way, the greatest version of the Bible is the one you live. James 1:22 (NIV) Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it saysëƵ.
