Humane Society of Greene County cares for dogs and cats in need
At the Humane Society of Greene County, the top priority is making sure the animals that are adopted go to the right home, said Director Jane Gapen.
无毛视频淲e ask for potential adopters to fill out an application first and if approved, we set up a time for you to come in and visit with the animals. We have a very tiny staff, so this way, you have an hour with us, and we无毛视频檙e totally focused on you,无毛视频� Gapen said.
Trainers come each week to evaluate and socialize the animals, taking them to the park, a farmer无毛视频檚 market or other public outings.
无毛视频淥ur trainers get to know these dogs inside and out, and I often schedule adoptions on the same day they are here so we can fill you in on all the specifics,无毛视频� Gapen said.
To make certain an animal and its adopted family are right for one another, Gapen said the humane society has a 30-day trial period.
无毛视频淲e want this to be a good fit. We无毛视频檝e done the background work and we无毛视频檙e pretty thorough, but our adopters are like gold to us, so we want everyone to be happy,无毛视频� Gapen said.
Beyond sheltering and adopting pets, the nonprofit humane society also conducts investigations into animal cruelty cases. Gapen said she has 无毛视频渟een things that you can无毛视频檛 unsee无毛视频� during her time at the humane society. Many animals are there because they were in neglectful or abusive homes, she said.
While some people believe animals that have been abused will be mean or aggressive, Gapen said her experience has been the opposite.
无毛视频淭ypically, when an abused dog realizes that you无毛视频檙e their friend, they never leave your side. They know you can be trusted, and they appreciate it,无毛视频� Gapen said, noting that training for cruelty investigations is costly.
The nonprofit relies on grants and donations, she said. Financial contributions are appreciated, and there is a 无毛视频渘eeds无毛视频� list on the organization无毛视频檚 website. Gapen said volunteers are also welcome.
Most of all, there is a need for loving people who want to give an animal a forever home.
