Belle Vernon Legion rallies for 7-3 win over Smithfield-Fairchance
Belle Vernon regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third inning Monday night for a 7-3 victory over visiting Smithfield-Fairchance in a Fayette County American Legion Baseball League home victory.
Jake Wessel’s run-scoring triple broke the 2-2 tie and Wessel scored on Kayden Faychak’s single.
Faychak and AJ Grese each drove in a run to give Belle Vernon a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Smithfield-Fairchance tied the game with two runs in the top of the third inning on Kaden Brady’s single.
Belle Vernon added two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and a single run in the sixth inning. Smithfield-Fairchance added a run in the top of the seventh inning.
Zachary Bird doubled and scored a run in the win.
Winning pitcher Alex Nash drove in two runs. He allowed one unearned run on one hit over the final four innings for the win. Nash walked one and struck out seven.
Jason Myers took the loss and led the offense with two hits.
Fayette County League
Carmichaels 3, Mill Run 1 – The Copperheads scored two runs in the top of the first inning and made the advantage stand for a road victory at Mill Run.
AJ Vanata started the early rally with a two-out double. He came around to score on Noah Mildren’s home run.
Vanata accounted for Carmichaels’ third run with a solo home run in the top of the third inning.
Mill Run (3-1) answered with an unearned run in the bottom of the inning.
Gianni Cantini started and pitched 5.1 innings for the victory. The right-hander allowed one unearned run on three hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.
Drake Long picked up the save for Carmichaels (2-0-1) after allowing two hits, walking one and striking out three in the final 1.2 innings.
Alan VanSickle went the distance in the loss. He allowed three earned runs on four hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
