A Belle Vernon man awaiting trial in Fayette County Court for allegedly sexually assaulting two children has died.

Peter Carlson, 39, was facing 16 charges in two separate cases, including rape, indecent assault and involuntary sexual intercourse.

Last week a motion was granted on behalf of Caslon requesting that his trial, which was scheduled for later this month, be delayed until December. One of the reasons listed was due to Carlson having to undergo several “vital medical tests.”

Earlier this week, a notice was filed with the court that he’d died.

State police had alleged Carlson inappropriately touched a boy in 2020. In a second case, he was accused of sexually assaulting a girl in 2020 and 2021.

Carlson had been free on bond while he was awaiting trial. The cause of his death was not listed in court paperwork.
